APES

WELCOME TO A GREAT, NEW CLASS AND A GREAT, NEW YEAR!!!!

APES has started the year with a unit on Populations (Chapter 6 and 7).
Students have been doing a Duckweed Population Lab, which we redesigned due to early problems.

APES students went to the GEMPP outdoor classroom for two days and collected various soil samples.
We have spent this week analyzing our samples for soil texture, porosity, percolation, and water holding capacity.  We will also be looking at macroinvertebrates in the leaf litter.  Although soil is not directly tied to populations, I wanted the students to get involved in lab analysis early in the year.
Soil will NOT be on the Populations Test.

Students are well under way with their lab/ current event journals.  This is a very important part of the course- students may have to present their lab journal to a college for college credit.

***First Exam will be Thur or Fri., Sept. 27 or 28.  ***

ACTION POINTS ARE AN IMPORTANT PART OF THE CLASS.
